EDUCATIONAL WAQF MANAGEMENT IN MALAYSIA’S HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS: REVIEW OF LITERATURE

Purpose – This article is a literature review based on researches, books, articles and others which are related to the issue of waqf management in Malaysia s higher education institutions. Design/methodology/approach – The study was conducted using qualitative methods by taking a literature study approach. Findings – There has been a lot of writing, throwing ideas and discussions were made by the experts, academician and governments on the issue. Waqf of education in Malaysia is seen growing with the establishment of waqf fund for education in several institutions such as the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) and many more. However, there are no studies specifically examining the waqf management in existing institutions, especially involving aspects of fund management as the backbone to the success of waqf for education. Originality/value – The article explores the management of waqf education in the universities and some aspects of the challenges inherent in the operations in which they are viewed can affect the development of waqf itself.
