THE REVIVAL OF REGIONAL PLANNING CONCEPT IN ANCIENT CITIES

Throughout history many terms refer to certain concepts in city planning, for example, development, regional development, sustainable development, and finally eco-development The paper reviews these terms in practice today analyzing their relations on our ancient cities. Many questions will be raised, were the cities planned in harmony with their regions? Were Ancient cities serving their regions? The real importance lies in the significance of these cities, factors, concepts, and tools to be learned from city plans with respect to their critical and significant importance as places of cultural and human value. We can t go on dealing with the ideas of development in these cities without a good relevance for the cities historical significance and identity. For a long while, the preservation of our historical cities has been the focus of the conservators only, it is time to move to a broad effective area to be the focus to all who are involved in the development of such cities. To accomplish this, the paper tackled urban planning in ancient cities in Egypt; it also addresses the regional planning definitions, importance, rule and relations to main partners.
