Abstract
The purpose of this study was to examine whether the teaching literature component Malay Language using Needham (1987) Five Phase Model can improve the student’s achievement. A Quasi-Experimental study involving 80 Chinese students from a secondary school was carried out to test the effect of two teaching strategies. They were divided into two groups. The experimental group was put through the Needham (1987) Five Phase Model approach, and the control group went through the conventional learning approach. Data was analyzed using independent samples t-test. The findings of this study showed there is significance difference between experimental and control group in post-test. Min score experimental group reported higher compared with min score from control group in post-test.
