Social Studies Concept Within Pictures Of Students

Indicating the perception of primary school 6th grade students about social studies concept with pictures they drew is the aim of this research. Qualitative research method has been used within this work. Students have explained what they meant with their pictures through interviews. In the end of this research, four themes have been formed about the social studies concept. These themes are social studies focused on history, social studies focused on geography, social studies focused on citizenship knowledge and social studies focused on interdisciplinary approach. Students participated within this research explained social studies concept generally by drawing pictures particular to only one discipline (history, geography). It has been seen that students drawing pictures particular more than one discipline recognized that social studies utilize several disciplines. The results of this research include the situations those authorities of educational programs, academics, teachers of social studies and primary school should care about.
