Abstract
The aim of this study is to determine secondary mathematics teachers’ views on mathematical models and mathematical modeling activities that they utilize in the instruction of areas and volumes of solid objects. The interview technique, which is among the qualitative research designs, was used in this research. This research was conducted with the participation of 10 secondary mathematics teachers working in Erzurum city center. The data of the research were obtained with semi-structured interviews that were conducted to the teachers. The data obtained from these interviews were evaluated using the content analysis and descriptive analysis methods. It was found that the interviewed teachers used mathematical models in the instruction of area and volume concepts in solid objects but they did not adequately implement mathematical modeling activities since they did not have adequate knowledge on mathematical modeling.
