Abstract
The aim of this study is to investigate the perceptions of the 3rd and 4th grade Samsun 19 May University ELT department students’ toward mobile phone via metaphor analysis. Qualitative research technique and phenomenological design were used and 123 students took part in this study. These students were asked to complete the sentence “Mobile phone is like a (n) … because …” and this sentence was used in the analysis of the data. According to the data taken by content analysis technique, the participants mentioned 69 metaphors and based on their common properties, 6 conceptual categories were identified. As a result of this study, it has been elucidated that students have quite positive ideas about mobile phone. However, it is also identified that students have some negative concepts such as a dangerous concept and addiction
