Abstract
Post-core systems are used for providing retention to the restoration in extremely damaged teeth that were endodontically treated. Although several in vivo and in vitro studies had been made about the restorations of the endodontically treated teeth, there aren t any conclusive datas about the ideal treatment method. Correspondingly, due to the insufficient restorative treatment several endontically treated teeth are lost. The most important things for the succesful treatment are apointing the correct indication and following the main principles. The clinical effectiveness of such restorations has been mainly ascribed to the more biomimetic behaviour of contemporary posts that reduces the risk of vertical root fractures. Several factors related to endodontic treatment, root canal shape, post space preparation, post translucency, adhesive cement handling and curing may have an influence on the outcome of posts success. The aims of this review are evaluating the post systems that are commonly used in the treatment of endodontically treated teeth and investigating contemporary post systems.
