Abstract
The effect of hypothyroidism induced by carbimazole (CBZ) on the male reproductive system was investigated using 52 adults of albino male rats weighing 250-300 g treated orally with two doses of CBZ, 80 and 160 mg / kg body weight while control animals were given distilled water orally-Testing was done after 2, 4, 6, 8 weeks of treatment. The results showed a significant decrease in the percentage of live sperms and sperm numbers in the testis and epididymis (head and tail) while a significant increase was observed in the percentage of abnormal sperms in those parts of reproductive system (both significantly at p ≤ 0.001). This study confirms the existence of a clear effect of thyroid hormones disorder on the productivity and effectiveness of the male reproductive system in rat.
