  • Abstract
The oil and gas industry has been considered as a catalyst for change and development in Paka, Kertih and Kemaman, which directly affect the well-being of local communities. This article aims to identify the impact of the petroleum industry on local communities in Paka, Terengganu in three main areas, namely economic, environmental and social. There is a significant relationship between the role of government and infrastructure development in improving the local community well being. Significant relationship between population and infrastructure development in Paka has created economic opportunities to local community. However, the inverse relationship between the concerns of the industry and the environmental problems do not prevent the industry doing various social responsibilities such as providing assistance to fishermen, mangrove reforestation programs and the like which have reduced environmental problems. In this context, the significant relationship between development and the negative impact has affected the well-being of the local community. Therefore, interested parties should take the initiative to address these negative impacts so that a sustainable development could be created.
