GUEST EDITOR’S INTRODUCTION

This issue of JATI primarily addresses issues of culture and identity in contemporary South East Asia. Such a focus brings out the surprising diversity and variety of cultures and sub cultures that the states of South East Asia host. More particularly as a number of the authors featured here point out, regional cultures and sub cultures have demonstrated both resilience and adaptability to the pressures posed both by nation building and more recently by globalization and the influence exerted by western and international media.
