Golden Jubilee - Messages; MISSION AND COMMITMENT MEMORIES OF THE 1963-64 MASTER’S CLASS

The news of the beginning of Master s classes at the University of Karachi in 1962 energized a small group of young professionals in Lahore to initiate a very vigorous and difficult campaign to start similar classes at the University of the Punjab. This struggle matured soon with making necessary preparations and later allocations for staff and resources in the 1965-66 University budget to begin classes in September 1965. That was not to be, due to several reasons including the 1965 war, until 1974. However, in light of the struggle mentioned above and subsequent developments taking place at the University during 1963 and 1964, the University decided to send four members of its library staff on scholarship for master s study at the University of Karachi - two each in 1963-64 and 1964-65. I was one of the two selected for the first batch to reach Karachi about a week or so after the classes had begun.
