  • Abstract
The goal of this study is to apply waste heat recovery system (WHRS) to operation of a stenter machine in a textile mill in order to optimize it’s energy consumption. The WHRS is controlled and operated using SCADA. The stenter machine is used to dry textile fabric. The heat required in fabric drying process in the stenter at issue is obtained from a hot-oil boiler. The heat recovery is accomplished by re-utilization of exhaust air from stenter machine by means of a heat exchanger. As result of this study, significant thermal energy saving was achieved since the heat recovery process reduces the amount of coal needed to burn the hot-oil boiler. Because of the pre-filtering used in the heat recovery system, air pollution caused by the stenter machine is also minimized. This study is completed and currently in use at a company which is one of the major textile plant of the Turkey.
