A Treatise on Mathematics Written in the Era of Bayezid II: Muhammed bin Musa and Miftah el-Müşkilat

In this article, we have analyzed how decimal fractions were handled in traditional period of Ottomans by means of Muhammed b. Musa (15th century). His treatise entitled Miftah el-Müşkilat which was written for accountants, represents an advanced level regarding calculation techniques with decimal fractions peculiar to Ottoman accountants. Thus, it is realised that the author of the treatise devoloped this subject. In this study the unique copy of the manuscript has been used and evaluated with the information we obtained from other sources.
