ECO-SOCIOLOGY IN YASAR KEMAL’S NOVELS

Yasar Kemal is a writer focused on people and society as well as natureand the transformation in nature. Nature is addressed in these two ways interms of eco-sociology in Yasar Kemal’s novels: First, nature is mentionedin the physical environment of the novel along with various plant speciesand the importance and function of ecological balance with wild animals.The writer introduces us with many flowers, plants and animals living in theregion where the novel is built. Secondly, the writer focuses on theecosystem affected by the large change in land use that occurred with thechange in production relations and transition to industrial agriculture in Cukurova and on the deteriorating nature in Istanbul due to unplanned urbanization and misuse of the sea. The reasons why we dealt with both of the above mentioned cases in this study are to contribute to the discussions about the importance of an eco-sociological perspective in the analysis of novels.
