  • Abstract
    Background: changes throughout the world in the delivery of cost effective health care systems faced with spiraling health costs in the light of new medical discoveries and the health care professions. Understanding how doctors learn must in turn have implications for how doctors are taught. The three main areas of change that are affecting clinical teaching at current time: social changes, healthcare changes and educational changes. The current trends in clinical teaching are: Student centered to Patient centered, Apprenticeship to Systematic approach, Multi professional aspects, Focus on the clinical setting, Reflective practice and Early introduction to clinical practice. Methods: A model for teaching and learning in general surgery clinical setting based on the current trends in clinical teaching. Discussions and Conclusions: are included current trends in clinical teaching, student centered to patient centered, apprenticeship to systematic approach, multi professional aspects, focus on the clinical setting, reflective practice and early introduction to clinical practice.
