Abstract
OBJECTIVE: The objective of this case report was to evaluate the use of acellular dermal matrix (ADM) as a barrier membrane for guided bone regeneration using deproteinized bovine bone (DBB) graft in ridge augmentation procedures. CASES: In the first case, a Seibert Class I defect on the buccal side of a missing tooth No. 21 was augmented with ADM as a membrane for bone augmentation of the resorbed socket, prior to the placement of a conventional fixed prosthesis. There was a 5 mm increase of buccal width and an increase of soft tissue thickness. The augmented area remained stable up to six-month follow-up. In the second case, immediate implant placement was done simultaneously with ADM and a bone graft. The exposed area healed uneventfully without any soft tissue dislodgement and showed an increase of keratinized tissue. CONCLUSIONS: The ADM graft may be beneficial in ridge augmentation procedures as a barrier membrane for underlying bone graft with the added benefits of increasing the keratinized tissue and soft tissue thickness.
