Abstract
Introduction: Primary esophageal small cell carcinoma (SmCC), a rare yet aggressive tumor with early systemic dissemination, has a poor prognosis despite the type therapy. Case description: We report a case of esophageal SmCC combined with welldifferentiated squamous cell carcinoma. Discussion: in which tumor cells were strongly positive for chromogranin and synaptophysin in the SmCC component by immunohistochemistry. No lymph node metastasis was found. The patient refused further therapy and expired one year after operation.
