Sexual, Physical and Emotional Abuse of Individuals with Disabilities

This study explores sexual, physical and emotional abuse that individuals with certain disabilities, draws attention to the neglected cases of abuse of the individuals with disabilities and looks to its prevention. It covers news that appeared in written Turkish media between the years 2005 and 2015. Ten most popular newspapers have been chosen and screened for the study. Specific terms such as “sexual abuse, sexual harassment, rape, physical and emotional abuse of individuals with disabilities” were utilized for locating similar events in search engines. Basically, the questions were geared towards factors such as abuser, types of abuse, location and context of abuse. This study should be conceptualized as an “archival research” with various subtypes of “document analysis.” Furthermore, since the news has been classified according to years and months to gain a wider perspective of the occurrences, the study also deserves to be classified as a “trend analysis”.
