Contribution of Retired Staff Colonel Selahattin Bey to Proclamation of 2nd Constitution

The Union and Progress Party ended the autocratic government in the Ottoman State and had the purpose of the proclamation of Constitution anew, thus leading to the unity in the State. The Union and Progress Party planned a move in the Macedonia region, where it had secretly became organized, for the proclamation of Constitution. Based on the possibility that the Sultan would get aware of their activities in the region, the party tried to take various measures against this. For this purpose, the party had started work one year before as they guessed that the Government (the Sultan’s House) would possibly send troops from Anatolia (especially from İzmir) to suppress the revolt. Then, Staff Lieutenant Colonel Selahattin Bey, while being on duty in izmir, was gained by Dr.Nazim to the party to this end.
