  • Abstract
The Johor-Riau relationship with Malay countries in West Kalimantan was influenced by two rulers of the Archipelago, Bugis and Minangkabau. These relationships and socdial interactions were exposed in Traditional Malay Historiography. This study used the theory of sociology of literature with content analysis techniques and was based on selected traditional Malay Historiography texts, namely Hikayat Siak, Tuhfat al-Nafis, and Salasilah Melayu dan Bugis. The texts represened the two great patrons: Hikayat Siak was written by Tengku Said, great-grandson of Raja Kecil, from Siak who was influenced by the Minangkabau power. Tuhfat al-Nafis, and Salasilah Melayu dan Bugis composed by Raja Ahmad and Raja Ali Haji, representing the interests of Bugis. The Johor- Riau relationship with Malay countries in West Kalimantan was influenced by the figure of Raja Kecil and Tengku Akil from the Minangkabau side, when the Bugis figure was mainly in the historical figure of Daeng Parani, Daeng Menambun, Daeng Marewah, Daeng Cellak, Daeng Kemasi and his descendants. They were historical figures in this country that influence the Malay kingdoms, especdially in the 18th and 19th centuries. The involvement of Malay figures such as Sultan Sulaiman Badrul Alam and his sister Tengku Tengah from Johor Riau, was related to shame and socdial-political interests of both the Malays.Likewise in Matan, the rivalry between Sultan Muhammad Zainuddin and the Putera Agung. This study found that there were several relationships, especdially socdial relations related to marrdiage and kinship, and political relations in the form of conflict and war.
