General Situation and Problems of Wheat Farming in Province of Konya

This study was conducted in 2008-2009 to determine the problems faced by farmers and to find appropriate solutions for these problems in Konya province (Central of Konya, Beysehir, Bozkir, Cumra, Doganhisar, Eregli, Ilgin, Kadinhani and Sarayonu districts). For this purpose, questions were randomly asked to 70 farmers and the results were assessed as a percentage. As a result, it was determined that the farmer applications varied from soil preparation to sale of product. 67 % of the farmers used at least three soil cultivation before planting. The yield and crop income were most important factors for variety selection and Bezostaja-1 (27 %) was the most preferred bread wheat and C-1252 (60 %) was the most preferred durum wheat. 64 % of the farmers using irrigation applied water 3 to 5 times. Grain yields varied from 15-50 kg ha^-1 for dry farming and from 35-90 kg ha^-1 for irrigated farming.
