  • Abstract
Pregnancies that occur out of the uterus are classified as ‘ectopic pregnancy’. In this case report, the aim was to present ‘secondary abdominal pregnancy’ in an ewe. The case, a four years old Awassi ewe with a history of prolonged pregnancy, was referred to University of Harran, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Clinic of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. After the clinical and ultrasonographic examinations, the ewe was diagnosed as pregnant and then laparo-hysterotomy operation was applied. During the laparo-hysterotomy, a dead fetus was found in the abdominal cavity that was covered by mesen-teric structure. An entirely involuted uterus was also observed. Furthermore, there were no tears on the uterus or vagina. According to these findings, the case was described as ‘secondary abdominal pregnancy’. This was the first occasion of such case, as one of the pathologic conditions of pregnancy, in our clinic. As a result, in case of prolonged pregnancy, the likelihood of secondary abdominal pregnancy should be always considered in ewes.
