  • Abstract
    Brain Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) is a factor that released by neurons and has role in the development and growth of neurons. Expression of BDNF is reduced by 50 % ratio in the most of the brain region of transgenic mouse model (BDNF heterozygous transgenic (+/-)), which is deprived of one of the two alleles coding BDNF protein. Besides, neurologic effects of BDNF protein, the effects on metabolism should also be investigated. In this study, glucose, lipid and protein parameters were aimed to compare among BALB/C, BDNF homozygous (+/+) and BDNF heterozygous transgenic (+/-) mice. Ten BALB/C mice and 9 wild type (WT) BDNF homozygous normal (+/+) mice and 4 WT BDNF heterozygous transgenic (+/-) mice were used in this experiment. BDNF heterozygous transgenic (+/-) and BDNF homozygous mice were differentiated by RT-PCR. When the data obtained in the groups were compared, it was determined that glucose and lipid levels in WT groups were significantly low and total protein level was high in comparison to BALB/C group. It was detected that no significant difference among these parameters was found between BDNF homozygous (+/+) and BDNF heterozygous transgenic (+/-) mice. It was understood that BDNF protein deficiency does not significantly affect glucose, lipid and protein levels in healthy normal mice. Further studies are needed to evaluate the effects of BDNF protein on metabolism. Investigations about the role of BDNF during metabolic diseases may provide to comprehend the metabolic effects more.
