Questioning the reconstructed reality:The Events of September 6-7, 1955 in the Turkish Collective Memory

The first aim of this study is to analyze whether the representation of the September6-7 events in the press was exposed to the collective memory’s dynamics of distortion,and if so, which dynamics of distortion were apparent, using Michael Schudson’s“Dynamics of Distortion in Collective Memory” theory. The second aim is to analyzethe possibility of confronting this constructed reality within the framework ofdynamics of distortion by way of Tomris Giritlioglu’s film, “Guz Sancısı.” This studyanalyzes five different newspapers for its empirical basis.
