Abstract
Rcactive dyes typically form covalent ether linkages between the dye and the substrate when subjected to the proper conditions. These covalent bonds produce dycings with veryhigh wet fastness properties. Reactive dyes arc most often used on cellulose, but can be usedon fibers such as nylon and wool. Rcactive dyes are popular in textile manufacturing due to their fastness properties. These dyes have gained popularity over time and in the year 2000 represented 20-30% or the total dye market, with usage estimated to reach more than 50% by the end of 2007. Since the development of reactive dyes. there have been several useful papers pertaining to their development and application. Because or its usefulness over other dyestuff, this review paper deals with introduction to reactive dyes and advances over the last decade and presents scenario concerning the synthesis, properties and application of reactive dyes prepared from diazo components containing aromatic systems.
