Comparative field tests of various practices for the control of wind-induced conductor motion

This paper deals with an experimental assessment of the performance of different damping systems in controlling wind-induced conductor motions. The damping systems comprised different types of Stockbridge dampers or bretelles used on single ACSR and AAAC conductors as well as spacerdampers or semi-rigid spacers combined or not with bretelles used on similar triple or quad bundled conductors. AlI tests were conducted under natural wind conditions at the Hydro- QuCbec test line in Varennes, QuCbec.
