Abstract
Germany can be viewed as the natural home of the Rationalist impulse. Two of Germanyʹs most influential architects, Karl Friedrich Schinkel and Mies van der Rohe, have been admired the world over for their sense of tectonic order and purist form. Werner Durth and Roland May trace a modern history of the tendency, which began with the early 20th-century rediscovery of Schinkel and has been continued to the present in the work of OM Ungers.
