Abstract
The KIANA-1 computer program has been developed by the writer to predict the thermal
and mechanical behavior of zircaloy-clad UO2 fuel rods during their irradiation life under
steady state conditions. In the ®rst part of this paper a short description of the structure of the
program is presented, its range of application is described and the physical phenomena, which
are modeled, are brie¯y reviewed. Its second part deals with some examples of KIANA-1
analysis and modeling capabilities
