Numerical simulation of thermal performance of a square column

The boundary element method is used to analyse the thermal characters of a column in contact with an insulated floor. A computer program is developed to solve steady-state heat flow problems in three dimensions. The effects of floor thermal conductivity and insulation length on the total rates of heat flow and temperature distribution are investigated, and an efficient insulated column is discussed.
