  • Abstract
This paper reports the results of investigation on comparative study of long-term deformations of laterized and normal concrete short columns under sustained loading. Twenty-four 10 cm×10×40 cm laterized and normal concrete sealed and unsealed short columns were under investigation for 90 days. The results showed that there was not much variation between the creep deformations of laterized and normal concrete short columns. The laterized concrete specimens exhibited more creep and shrinkage deformations, either sealed or unsealed compared to its corresponding normal concrete. A consistent pattern of creep–time curve was observed in both cases and for sealed and unsealed specimens. The shrinkage–time curves were also consistent but different from those of the creep–time. 25% laterized content of fine aggregate was recommended for long-term resistance and usage in load-bearing short column members.
