Abstract
A two interlinked approach was utilized to investigate the effectiveness of mechanical ventilation systems of a hawker center in Singapore. Field measurements and thermal comfort survey were conducted to evaluate the thermal comfort perceptions of the users of the hawker center, and the areas with poor thermal comfort conditions were identified. The CFD simulations were conducted to study the impact on thermal comfort of three kinds of fans (wall fans, ceiling fans and extract fans) and to determine the type of the fan which could improve the thermal conditions more effectively in the hawker center.
