Abstract
Various available configurations for switched reluctance motors (SRMs) are described and the concept of an SRM with multiple teeth per stator pole is reviewed. The static testing of the novel 24/22 motor is briefly described and an accurate prediction method is adopted to determine its performance. Some typical performance characteristics are shown. The flux linkage, mean torque, and efficiency of two prototype SRMs with multiple teeth per stator pole, with 12/10 and 24/22 slotting, are compared. Such a comparison clarifies the benefit of increasing the number of teeth per stator pole and suitable ranges of speeds for each design are defined.
