Modelling of a combined heat and power (CHP) plant incorporating a heat pump for domestic use

This paper summarises modelling of an innovative domestic co-generation system, which may bring the significant economic and environmental advantages of CHP to the domestic market. Incorporation of a heat pump affords a high degree of flexibility. A hybrid plant could be run to satisfy a wide range of domestic energy requirements. A computer model was constructed to evaluate the plant performance. The model is driven by target domestic energy consumption values. There is significant potential for improved efficiency and emission reduction. The computer model is still being improved and a prototype plant is under development.
