Abstract
Autocorrelation is an operation that is applied to a variety of digitized signals, including Doppler bursts from LDV systems. Typically, this is calculated by performing a Fourier or Hartley transform, squaring the magnitude of the spectral coefficients, and performing the inverse transform. An integer algorithm is presented for calculating the autocorrelation using the square-wave transform (SWT). Under favorable circumstances this method can be significantly faster than Fourier methods. Furthermore, since no transcendental functions appear in the SWT method, there is, unlike Fourier methods, no roundoff error in this algorithm. Algorithms for computing cross-correlation and convolution using the SWT are also presented.
