Modified Newmark family for non-linear dynamic analysis

A simple modification of the Newmark scheme is suggested, which keeps the total energy of mechanical systems constant and thereby enhances the unconditional stability in non-linear dynamic analysis. Numerical damping, which is formulated on an energy basis, is also introduced and the dissipative character of the algorithm is guaranteed in the non-linear regime. Representative examples in support of such a modified Newmark family are presented.
