Abstract
Economic theory, common sense, and extensive research all point to the essential role that standardized information can play in a competitive retail environment. Without easy-to-use labels, customers are more likely to stay with their existing supplier or choose a competitive supplier they did not intend to select. It is no wonder that state and federal officials are calling for consumer information disclosure provisions as they consider industry restructuring.
