The Power Delivery System of the Future

As one consequence of restructuring, the power delivery system is being utilized in ways for which it was not designed. Under deregulation of wholesale power transactions, electricity generators are encouraged to transfer electricity outside of the original service areas in order to respond to market needs and opportunities. This can stress the transmission system far beyond the limits for which it was designed and built. The constraints can be resolved but they will require renewed investment and innovation in power delivery.
