A note on the individualistic foundations of the core in economies with asymmetric information

Two foundations of the core are considered in the context of exchange economies: the standard coalition based interpretation, and one based on the individual profit seeking behaviour of agents. The resulting core notions coincide in symmetric information economies but diverge when generalized to economies with asymmetric information.
