Second order displacement fields of a thick elastic plate under thrust-the incompressible case

Branching of a thick incompressible plate of hyperelastic material under uniaxial thrust is studied. The iacceptable barreling second order displacement field is described, corresponding to the first order lower flexure mode. An application, clarifying the theory, is presented for a Mooney- Rivlin material.
