Abstract
theory is developed for fluid-saturated poroelastic plates made of a material for
which diffusion is possible in the in-plane directions only. Both bending and in-plane loading are
considered. The plates are isotropic in the plate plane and obey the Kirchhoff hypotheses. Biot’s
constitutive law is adopted and Darcy’s law is used to describe the fluid flow in pores. Quasistatic
and transverse vibration problems are investigated. Example solutions are presented and
observations are made on the types of deflection/vibration patterns exhibited. 0 1997 Elsevier
