Unilateral breast cancer after previous mantle radiotherapy: is bilateral mastectomy justified?

A case of unilateral breast cancer in a woman previously given radiotherapy for Hodgkinʹs disease is described. Our patient chose bilateral mastectomy as her preferred treatment. The management of this case and the implications for those who have had radiotherapy in childhood and their subsequent risk of a second malignancy is discussed.
