Comparison of ESR/TLD analyses for quartz as routine dosimeter

Measurements of Tl and ESR of quartz sand are presented in the dose range of interest for food irradiation (0.01–10 kGy). Examples of fading and intercomparison of TL/ESR results are given. It is proposed that a combination of TL and ESR methods is used which might, in the future, allow back-extrapolation to the date of radiation processing, as well as after correction for fading to estimate the dose applied.
