Abstract
The present paper deals with the determination of the self-diffusion coefficients of 134Cs+ ions in CsI, CsBr and CsCl over the concentration range of 5×10−6–0.01 M and of electrolyte diffusion coefficients of CsI, CsBr and CsCl (5×10−5–0.1 M) labelled with 134Cs+ in 1% agar gel at 25°C. These diffusion coefficients are compared with those expected from the Onsager–Fouss and Onsagerʹs theory for electrolyte and self-diffusion, respectively. The disparity between the theoretical and experimental diffusion coefficients over the wide range of concentrations is accounted on the basis of various types of interactions occurring in the ion–gel–water system.
