Internal Waves on the Continental Shelf of the Gulf of Tehuantepec, Mexico

The continental shelf of the Gulf of Tehuantepec in the southern Mexican Pacific exhibits complex propagation patterns of internal waves. Both in situ data and satellite imagery are consistent with the interaction of internal wave groups and intense coastal flows. The passage of these waves is shown to contribute to the mixing of the upper ocean. The vertical temperature and dissolved oxygen distributions are modified by the combined effect of several internal wave groups.
