Systematical investigation of the Y–Fe–Al ternary system Part 1. Single crystal studies of the YFexAl12-x compound

YFexAl12-x alloys within their homogeneity range were synthesized by arc-melting. Their crystal structures were determined for the first time from single-crystal X-ray diffraction data: ThMn12-type structure, I4/mmm space group; a=0.87561(6), c= 0.50446(5) nm for YFe4Al8, R=0.0295, wR2=0.0451; a=0.87159(8), c=0.50324(9) nm for YFe4.57Al7.43, R=0.0386, wR2=0.076; a=0.88226(8), c=0.50632(9) nm for YFe3.08Al8.92, R=0.0266, wR2=0.0581. The compound YFe3.08Al8.02 is reported for the first time.
