Transcervical repair of distal membranous tracheal laceration

A laceration of the distal membranous trachea usually has been repaired through a right thoracotomy, and occasionally through a lateral cervical approach. In the case reported here, a simple method of treating this complication was used that involved a mediastinoscopy incision. Suturing of the tear is carried out easily through a vertical incision made in the anterior wall of the trachea, which is then closed with no further consequences. The patient made a quick recovery, and the cosmetic result was excellent.
