  • Abstract
Purpoe: To analyze the relation between allergic conjunctiviti and the reult of photorefractive keratectomy performed with an excimer laer in myopic eye. Method: Fifty-even myopic eye in 57 Japanee patient were claified into three group: a normal group (30 eye of 30 patient), a treatment group compoed of eye with allergic conjunctiviti that were treated with fluorometholone and cromolyn odium eyedrop from month 3 until the end of the 12- to 18-month follow-up period (16 eye of 16 patient), and a no-treatment group compoed of eye with allergic conjunctiviti that received no allergic treatment until the end of the follow-up period (11 eye of 11 patient). Preoperative and potoperative examination included evaluation of corrected and uncorrected viual acuity and grading of corneal haze. Reult: In the no-treatment group, the mean corneal haze core ± D of 0.8 ± 0.98 wa ignificantly greater than the normal group core of 0.38 ± 0.49 (P = .02). There wa no ignificant difference in the haze core between the treated and normal group. A refractive outcome of ± 1 diopter wa obtained in 30 (100%) of the 30 patient in the normal group, 15 (93.8%) of 16 patient in the treatment group, and four (36.4%) of the 11 patient in the no-treatment group. Viual acuity wa 20/40 or better after photorefractive keratectomy in 30 patient (100%) in the normal group, 15 patient (93.8%) in the treatment group, and ix patient (54.5%) in the no-treatment group. Concluion: Thee finding ugget that untreated allergic conjunctiviti i a ignificant rik factor for haze and myopic regreion after photorefractive keratectomy.
