  • Abstract
Purpoe: To correlate the hitologic and clinical claification of type 1 (ubretinal pigment epithelium) and type 2 (ubenory retina) choroidal neovacularization. Method: Ten eye of 10 patient with urgically excied choroidal neovacularization that were routinely proceed and could be hitologically claified a having a type 1 or type 2 configuration were tudied. The patient were clinically claified a having type 1 or type 2 choroidal neovacularization according to preoperative fundu appearance of both eye and patient age. The hitologic and clinical claification were made in a maked fahion, and the reult were compared. Reult: The hitologic claification wa type 1 and type 2 for three and even pecimen, repectively. The clinical claification matched the hitologic claification in nine of 10 cae. Clinical fundu characteritic that ditinguihed type 2 choroidal neovacularization included a ubretinal pigmented halo or pigmented plaque in the area of the choroidal neovacularization and harply defined border. Patient with type 1 membrane were on average older (76 year) than patient with type 2 membrane (53 year). Concluion: It i generally poible to clinically acertain by clinical fundu appearance and age of a patient whether ubfoveal choroidal neovacularization repreent a type 1 or type 2 configuration.
