Treatment of central retinal vein occluion by injection of tiue plaminogen activator into a retinal vein

Purpoe: To report the injection of tiue plaminogen activator into a retinal vein to treat central retinal vein occluion. Method: An 81-year-old woman with viual lo of the right eye econdary to central retinal vein occluion developed central retinal vein occluion and viual lo in her left eye. Treatment of her left eye with topical ocular hypotenive medication, pentoxifylline, and laer chorioretinal anatomoi wa without benefit. Thereafter, he underwent vitreoretinal urgery, including tiue plaminogen activator injection into a branch retinal vein of her left eye. Reult: The patient reported ubjective improvement in the viion of her left eye. Ophthalmocopic and fluorecein angiographic improvement were alo noted. Concluion: The feaibility of cannulating a retinal vein for treatment ha been demontrated.
