  • Abstract
PURPOE: To tudy the pattern of tructural damage of the optic dik in patient with early focal viual field lo uing a confocal canning laer ophthalmocope. METHOD: Thirty-nine ubject with repeatable early focal viual field lo were included. The Heidelberg Retina Tomograph (Heidelberg Engineering, Heidelberg, Germany) wa ued to obtain topographic optic dik meaurement. For analyi of tructural damage, the topographic meaurement were divided into 36 10-degree ector. ector analyi wa performed uing ector rim area to ector dik area ratio. Patient were aigned to one of three group baed on the meaurement of the optic dik damage: (1) diffue dik damage; (2) focal dik damage; or (3) no detectable dik damage. REULT: Approximately half of the patient with early focal glaucomatou viual field lo howed diffue optic dik damage, one quarter to one third had focal damage, and one ixth had no detectable damage. Optic dik area wa mallet in the no-detectable-damage group (1.71 + 0.19 mm2), followed by the focal-damage group (2.06 + 0.54 mm2), and wa larget in the diffue damage group (2.29 + 0.48 mm2; P = .22). CONCLUION: In patient with early focal glaucomatou viual field lo, obervable optic dik damage can be diffue, focal, or undetectable. The Heidelberg Retina Tomograph may be capable of detecting different pattern of diffue or focal tructural damage.
